Innovative Hinge Design for Tablet PCs Based on User Needs

This study explores the development and evaluation of an innovative hinge design for 360-degree rotating laptops (tablet PCs) tailored to business environments. Emphasizing user experience (UX) alongside traditional metrics of functionality and durability, this research underscores the pivotal role of UX in business-oriented devices. By conducting user observations and technical analyses, we identified hinge-related challenges and proposed a novel two-step torque hinge design. This design was implemented in a market-released product, enabling the collection of real-world user feedback. Results indicated notable improvements in user satisfaction, highlighting the significance of UX-focused design in business tablet PCs. This study demonstrates that prioritizing UX can drive innovation in mature product designs, resulting in significant improvements.
