3D Model Feature Optimization Technology Based on Area Weighting and Laplace Operator

In the field of 3D model rendering, optimization issues are currently the main direction of research. Since new problems inevitably arise during the model simplification process, leading to a decline in model quality, it is necessary to consider the optimization of the model while simplifying. This paper introduces the average area of the first-order neighborhood triangles and the sharp feature degree as new constraint factors into the calculation of the folding cost on the basis of the conventional simplification algorithm Quadric Error Metrics (QEM), which enhances the ability to preserve feature areas. At the same time, in the optimization phase, the positions of model space vertices are adjusted and updated based on the Laplace operator, making the arrangement of the internal triangular mesh more in line with the Delaunay criterion and of higher quality. Through experimental verification, the improved algorithm in this paper, while ensuring the simplification of the model volume, also achieves the optimization of the model surface features, eliminating low-quality deformed triangular meshes
