Design of a Linear Controller Applied to an Active Radial Magnetic Bearing for a Picosatellite Autogyro Mechanism

Magnetic bearings are essential in modern industrial applications due to their ability to eliminate friction and wear, crucial for high-speed machinery. They offer a reliable alternative to traditional bearings, addressing challenges like friction and vibration in industries such as aerospace, energy, and manufacturing. Applications like gas turbines and centrifuges benefit from their frictionless operation, extending equipment lifespan and improving overall performance. This paper details the implementation of advanced control techniques in a system of a nonlinear nature, specifically, an active radial magnetic bearing used in an autogyro mechanism for Picosatellites. The underlying principle is based on the precise control of the position of a shaft using the forces generated by the currents flowing through the installed coils. Simulation results reveal a satisfactory response of the system dynamics and control strategies, managing to keep the shaft of an autogyro system in an optimal position within the margins established in the design.
