IoT-enabled Solar Power Bank Charging System for Empowering Off-Grid Communities

To satisfy the needs of off-grid populations, this work advocated the integration of the Internet of Things with an efficient solar power bank system. It presented a comprehensive approach to improving energy access, sustainability, and quality of life in underserved regions in line with the sustainable development goals. Access to dependable power sources continues to be a big problem in underserved regions, in a world where digital connectivity is crucial. Access to reliable electricity in most developing countries is still challenging in many areas, especially in rural areas (off-grid communities). As a result, economic and general livelihood poses a significant problem. Solar energy is an excellent alternative to conventional electricity for powering these communities enabling access of their devices and infrastructures for economic empowerment. An Internet of Things (IoT) based solar mobile power bank charger can significantly enhance user experience by allowing remote monitoring and control of the charging process through a dedicated mobile app. This feature adds convenience and helps users optimize energy consumption and harness solar power more effectively and efficiently. Through a specialized smartphone app, the IoT solar charger allows users to remotely monitor and control the charging process achieving ease of use and energy optimization for effective and efficient solar power utilization. This design is made up of a battery system, solar system, maximum power point tracking (MPPT), charge controller, microcontroller, IoT module, battery charger module, laptop charger module and DC light bulbs.
