Investigation of the Effect of Star-Delta Starting on Ac Induction Motors Efficiency and Power Factor

Star delta starting impact on efficiency and power factor of AC induction motor is the subject of this paper on industrial frequently-used motors. This is because AC induction motors are mandatory owing to their features of high structural integrity and efficiency; nonetheless, they are associated with immense starting currents-that cause energy wastage and fluctuating voltages. Star delta starting method which is employed commonly owing to its efficiency shifts from star to delta connection and hence consequently minimizes initial in rush current and electrical stress. Using MATLAB/Simulink, the research analyzes motor performance under various voltage levels. Key findings demonstrate that the star-delta method enhances motor efficiency, increasing from 87.16% at 380V to 93.22% at 415V, while maintaining a stable power factor of 0.9904 - 0.9893 and rotor speed of approximately 187.6 rad/s. The results of this study are useful to develop procedures for optimizing motor startup which can result in energy, reduced mechanical load, and increased stability, for industrial motor control systems.
