Development of a Smart and Cost Effective Gas Leakage and Flame Detection System for Homes and Industries

Uncontrolled flames and emission of gases can be extremely dangerous. In order to solve this issue, this project presents a quickly accessible gas and flame detection system that is constructed with easily accessible equipment. To detect leaks and open flames, the system makes use of gas sensors and flame sensors, respectively. A central micro-controller receives data from both sensors and trigger alarms, send SMS alerts with GPS location for remote notification, and activate automatic fire extinguishers or gas expulsion systems. Prioritizing user-friendliness and cost-effectiveness, the project utilizes Arduino IDE for programming and Fritzing for circuit design with a special focus on readily available components to minimize complexity and keep costs low. This developed system promotes safety awareness and prompt action by automatically triggering alarms, alerts, and minimization measures, ultimately contributing to a safer environment for residential and small-scale industrial settings. The project was tested and demonstrates effectiveness in the detection of gas leaks and open flames, towards appropriate responses, and prioritizes user-friendliness and affordability. The developed system finds applications in campuses, homes, industries, and smart city environments.
