Analyses of Solar Tower with Chimney Effect in Tunisia: Influence of Geometric and Climatic Parameters

A solar chimney generates electricity by converting solar energy. The air existing under a covered structure is heated under the greenhouse effect and revolves around a chimney tower. A downward current under the impact of convection operates a turbine to generate electricity. In this paper, a prototype of a solar tower has been analyzed to characterize and optimize its operation. The effect of the climatic parameters (solar irradiation, ambient temperature) along with the diameter of the collector and the height of the chimney on electricity production are examined. The temperature variation at different vertical positions of the solar system and the electrical energy produced are given.
