Power Allocation for FAS-assisted Downlink Communication

Fluid antenna system (FAS) is a novel technology that can switch its radiating element to different locations within a predefined space. By exploiting the natural fading of the signal envelope, FAS can select the best channel without complicated signal processing. This paper studies a power allocation problem in a FAS-assisted multi-user downlink system, where each user is equipped with a fluid antenna while the base station (BS) has multiple fixed-position antennas (FPAs). We investigate the sum rate maximization problem under power constraint using the weighted minimum mean squared error (WMMSE) method. Simulation results show that the achieved sum rate of fluid antenna is much higher than that of FPA.
