Design and Development of High Speed Multiplier Block for DSP Applications

A high-speed multiplier for Digital Signal Processing (DSP) applications is the focus of the study here. The research and development efforts are discussed relevantly. The first step in the study was to comprehend the fundamentals of multiplication and the significance of signed multiplication in DSP. The Bough-Wooley is multiplier design was found to be the best option after a comparison of many multiplier architectures for the intended application. A computational analysis of the architecture was performed at the FPGA level. After investigating several addition techniques for the Bough-Wooley multiplier design, it was observed that propagate and generate strategy produced the good results in terms of high speed and resource efficiency. The suggested architecture was implemented and results verified on Cadence Virtuoso. Overall, this study provides a comprehensive understanding of the design and development of high-speed multipliers for DSP applications, with practical implications for real-world use.
