Improvement of RF interference on DDR interface using tab-routed microstrip line

With various form factors like single board computers(SBC), mini-ITX form factor board, and micro-strip line (MSL) routing for DDR (Double data rate) is challenging to have minimum receiver sensitivity interference. Strip line (SL) is always preferred over MSL with losing a layer. This paper discusses tab-based routing, which helps signal quality while demonstrating good improvement over receiver sensitivity performance. The proposed structure shows the maximum improvement in eye height (EW) and eye width (EH) with 1.22% and 23.89 % respectively at 3200Mbps compared to conventional design. When the antenna is kept near the board’s periphery, MSL with tab routing shows a good improvement compared to the traditional MSL design, which is one of the challenges for meeting RFI requirements.
