Design of a Compact Dual Layer Filtenna With Good Frequency Selectivity

The paper covers analysis of a compact substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) filtenna that has a two layered design aiming to improve frequency selectivity. On the common wall between the two stacked cavities are etched two slots for coupling so that four radiation nulls are developed. The radiating slot is etched in the upper cavity. Simulation software is used to analyze the structure. The operating frequency is 4.42 GHz and an out-of-band rejection of around 23 dB is achieved, which is acceptable.
