Test and Assessment of Grid Forming Wind Turbine with Energy Storage Based on Controller Hardware-in-the-Loop

The grid forming wind turbine with energy storage is regarded as a better solution to the renewable power plants integrated to the weak grid. The electrical characteristics should be studied and investigated through test, which is benefit for the steady operation research of power system. Firstly, PMSG wind turbine with grid forming control technology, equipped with energy storage system is introduced. Secondly, a wind turbine platform based on controller hardware-in-the-loop is elaborated, and it can be used for control performance assessment with high fidelity. The capabilities of prototype wind turbine under the cases of weak grid operation, frequency response and voltage regulation are tested and assessed, and the results are analyzed at last. This work is expected to understand the control performance and provide a test method for gird forming wind turbine with energy storage.
