Reduction of Carrier Harmonic Iron Loss of Phase-Shift Windings Dual Three-Phase Motors by Phase Current-Shift Control

A carrier harmonic iron loss reduction technique for the phase-shift windings dual three-phase motors is proposed in this manuscript. By controlling two three-phase current phase-shifts from 30 degrees to -30 degrees, the voltage phase-shift is controlled from 30 degrees to 19 degrees, and the first and third carrier harmonic iron loss is reduced to a 42.9% maximum. Finite element analysis (FEA) confirms that the carrier harmonic current and carrier harmonic iron loss is reduced related to carrier harmonic impedance.
