Natural Fault-Tolerant Control Strategy of Dual Three-Phase PMSM Drives With a Common Neutral Point Under Open-Circuit Fault

Dual three-phase permanent-magnet synchronous motors (PMSMs) offer fault-tolerant capabilities via software reconfiguration under open-circuit faults, making them attractive for aircraft systems and offshore wind energy systems. Compared to isolated neutral points, dual three-phase PMSM drives with single neutral points can achieve less stator copper losses and wider torque operation range during post-fault condition. However, the reconfiguration of current reference and control structure complicates fault-tolerant control strategies. Aiming to explore the natural fault-tolerant ability, this paper has proposed a universal control strategy for dual three-phase PMSM drives with common neutral point, which can realize the adaptive transition between the healthy condition and the faulty condition without the need for fault diagnosis. Simulation results have verified the effectiveness of the proposed methods.
