Dynamic Modeling and Dynamic Characteristic of Gear Systems with Surface Pitting

Surface pitting can change the response characteristics of gear systems. In this article, the pitting model of the probability distribution on the tooth surface is established. Firstly, time-varying meshing stiffness (TVMS) is calculated. Secondly, the three-dimensional morphology of the tooth surface is constructed according to the established pitting model, then the influence of surface pitting on tooth roughness and friction coefficient is analyzed. Subsequently, the dynamic model of the gear system is established to obtain the vibration characteristics. Then the system dynamics experiment is carried out. Results indicate that the tooth surface pitting reduces the TVMS while increasing roughness and friction coefficient, leading to increased vibration. In the frequency domain, sidebands appear in the spectrum.
