Research on the Indicators for Ageing Adaptation of Community Evaluation System Under the Concept of Dementia Friendly

Objective: Under the key issue of community aging transformation, it is an inevitable trend to explore in depth to provide effective guidance for the independent travel of the elderly with early dementia under the community pension model, which is to maintain the physical and mental health of the elderly and promote the development of healthy aging. Methods: Taking the renovation of the signage system in the community environment as an entry point and guided by the “dementia-friendly” theory, this study divides the renovation indicator system into seven major criteria: spatial guidance, safety, auxiliary functions, sensory stimulation, socialization, meaningful participation, and sustainable development, ultimately selecting 43 indicators as operational renovation indicators. A large community in Xi'an was used as a case study. A combination of interview methods and life trace recording techniques was employed to capture the behavioral characteristics of the elderly's daily activities within the community. Additionally, an importance comparison matrix and the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) were used to construct the evaluation system's structural model, thereby establishing an indicator weight judgment matrix. Results: A method for constructing age-friendly renovation indicators for community signage systems under the “dementia-friendly” concept was proposed. Conclusion: These indicators can serve as a theoretical foundation for future research on age-friendly renovations in community environments for elderly individuals with early-stage dementia and disabilities.
