Bi-Directional Dual Active Bridge for Aerospace Applications

In conventional aerospace power architecture two DC-DC converters are used. One will convert the available 270/540 VDC to 28 VDC and charge the battery. The other converter will be used convert 28VDC to 270/540VDC and it will support the 270/540VDC bus. The usage of two converters will increase the size, and weight of the system. Due to high size and multiple converters the power density and efficiency of the system will be reduced. A bi-directional Dual Active Bridge is presented in this paper which will reduce the size and weight and it will also increase the efficiency and power density of the overall system. Using the proposed topology and control algorithm we can achieve the efficiency nearly 98% and the power density is about 19 W/Inch³. The proposed topology is validated with MATLAB simulation.
