Current Balancing Model and String On Selection for Parallel-String LED Driver

This paper will discuss LED drivers consisting of current balancing circuits for each strand and String On selection. The current balancing LED driver model for each strand offers a low-power and low-cost LED Circuit Driver concept. The model offered is to reduce the use (elimination) of resistor components in the LED driver by using MOS (Metal Oxide Silicon) transistor components. This model has the potential to reduce power dissipation that predominantly occurs in resistor components. From the simulation results, it was found that the power loss in the linear current regulator with Conventional Dynamic Bus Voltage LED Driver control was 24.48 mW while the current balancing LED Driver model was 0.564 mW. The String On Selection Model which is a strand switching control strategy applied to the LED driver to control LED brightness flexibly and precisely, with a dimming frequency that can be significantly increased, and the dimming ratio for all branches can be set separately. With this model, energy consumption on each strand can be reduced. The average power of the Conventional Dynamic Bus Voltage controlled LED Driver in circuit 1 is 5.45 mW, while the average power of the LED Driver with circuit current balancing and circuit switching selection in circuit 1 is 0.159 mW.
