Output Dependent Fault Tolerant Controller Design for Variable Speed Wind Turbines in the presence of all Modes of Actuator Faults

This paper introduces a novel approach for designing output-dependent fault-tolerant controllers for nonlinear dynamic variable-speed wind turbines. By applying Linear Matrix Inequality (LMI) techniques, a fault-tolerant control (FTC) strategy proposed such to stabilize faulty systems under disturbances, based on an enhanced fault estimation scheme. This approach accounts for various actuator faults, including bias fault, loss of efficiency, sticking, and complete failure, ensuring that the system mitigates effects of these faults and attenuates disturbances. Simulation results confirm the improved performance and reliability of the proposed control schemes on nonlinear, variable-speed wind turbines in the presence multi types of disturbances.
