Quadra-Ring SRR Metamaterials: A Novel Design for Enhancement of Magnetic Field in 1.5T MRI Scans

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is a premier non-invasive tool for clinical imaging of human organs and tissues. Enhancing the MRI signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) typically involves increasing the static magnetic field, which raises safety issues for patients having metallic implants. Metamaterials offer a solution by locally amplifying the magnetic field without the need for higher magnetization inside MRI scanners. Here, we propose a metamaterial inspired Quadra-Ring split ring resonator which enhances magnetic field by approximately ~3.5 times within the centre of the phantom's surface while adhering to specific absorption rate (SAR) safety standards. Additionally, the suggested design on FR4 substrate of thickness 0.8 mm can be seamlessly incorporated into the confined space (2 mm) of clinical MRI scanners.
