New Single-Input Dual-Output Converter for DC Nanogrid Application

In the near future, the widespread adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) will require a significant increase in DC fast-charging infrastructure. Public DC fast-charging systems alone won’t meet the demand for a convenient EV-charging network, highlighting the need for residential DC chargers to support these systems. Addressing this need, the development of innovative multi-output converters is crucial to replacing separate converters for operating the various loads. This paper presents a new Single-Input Dual-Output (SIDO) converter capable of providing both step-up and step-down output voltages. Compared to conventional separate boost and non-inverting buck-boost converters, the proposed design employs fewer switches, resulting in a more compact structure and enhanced output voltage performance without relying on voltage gain techniques. Furthermore, it supports bidirectional operation. The paper includes a detailed analysis of the converter operation and features along with a comparison to recently published works. To validate its feasibility and functionality, a 1000 W prototype was tested in this study.
