Implementation of a Binary Reed-Solomon CODEC Using the Berlekamp-Massey Algorithm on FPGA

This work introduces a binary Reed-Solomon (RS) encoder and decoder (CODEC) implemented using the Berlekamp-Massey algorithm on an FPGA platform. By adapting the RS code structure to binary data streams, the design achieves efficient error detection and correction through a streamlined implementation of the Berlekamp-Massey algorithm. Synthesized in Verilog and deployed on Cyclone V CEFA2F23C8 and Cyclone IV EP4CE22F17C6 FPGAs, the proposed approach demonstrates robust error-correction performance with reduced hardware resource utilization, highlighting its suitability for real-time, resource-constrained environments.
