Flux Regulation Capability Design and Comparative Analysis of Hybrid Excited Axial Flux Switching PM Motors With Different Winding Arrangements

This paper presents a comparative analysis of two hybrid excitation axial flux switching permanent magnet (HEAFSPM) motors with distinct winding configurations. The HEAFSPM motors feature the dual stators and one rotor, with the armature windings and DC excitation windings able to be wound on either of the two stators. These include a unitary winding arrangement (UWA) and a separated winding arrangement (SWA). On this basis, the analysis concentrates on the torque and flux regulation performance of the HEAFSPM motors. Subsequently, a comprehensive analysis of the electromagnetic performance for the HEAFSPM motors with different winding arrangements is investigated based on the 3D finite element method encompassing the flux distribution, back-EMF, torque, and other pertinent factors. On this basis, a multi-objective optimization design of the preferred SWA motor is conducted with the objective of further improving the motor torque performance. The motor parameters were optimized and experimental prototypes were constructed. Finally, the theory analysis and comparison results are validated through experimentation between the two prototypes with different winding arrangements.
