Variable Reluctance Resolver with a Modular Stator: Main Design Aspects

A variable reluctance (VR) resolver with a modular stator design is studied. It is shown that the stator can operate with only four magnetically insulated cores with their own set of windings to implement a VR resolver. The operating principle of the proposed VR resolver is described. The main design parameters and their significance for the performance are addressed. The prototype of a resolver with a 10-saliency-pitch rotor and a modular stator is manufactured and its performance is verified. The measured accuracy of the resolver is lower than the simulated one in ideal conditions, which is explained by the sensitivity of the modular resolver to assembly precision.
