A FMM Bidomain Boundary Element Method for Modeling Electromagnetic Brain Stimulation of a Pseudo-Realistic Cell

Brain cells known as neurons transmit electrical signals by controlling the transport of chemical ions across their membrane. The presence of an electric (E-) field generated by an external device modulates these brain signals, producing therapeutic effects. Electrodes and coil technologies have been developed to use E-fields for treating psychiatric disorders, smoking addiction, and tremors from Parkinson's disease.
