Mutual Coupling Study of Full-Duplex Arrays

In-band full-duplex (IBFD) phased arrays not only allow for the concurrent use of frequency spectrum, but can also facilitate applications sharing common hardware for directional radiation. These systems require the suppression of both self- and cross-talk interference, which are both influenced by the mutual coupling between elements within the array. This paper presents a study of mutual coupling for linear arrays with patch elements designed to operate at 3.0 GHz. The differences between E- and H-plane coupling as well as a coupling-reduction technique are discussed and simulation results are presented with the intention that this study can inform the design of scalable IBFD arrays.
