A VR Amblyopia Rehabilitation System based on the P5G Design Framework

Amblyopia is a common childhood condition with reduced vision uncorrectable by lenses. To improve the treatment efficiency and patient compliance for amblyopia, we propose a novel virtual reality (VR) rehabilitation system based on the P5G design framework through gamified tasks and multi-sensory stimulation. A clinical trial comparing traditional occlusion therapy with VR-based rehabilitation found that one month of combined therapy equivalent to one year of occlusion therapy. The VR system also shows 100% compliance, enhancing patient engagement and long-term participation. The study concludes that the VR system is an effective, feasible approach for pediatric amblyopia treatment, with potential for broader application.
