Dynamic Modeling of a Six-To-Three-Phase Indirect Matrix Converter and Performance Evaluation Using Linear Quadratic Regulator

This work focuses on the interfacing of a hexaphase permanent magnet synchronous generator (PMSG) to a three-phase load network via an indirect matrix converter (IMC). Generally, three configurations can be deduced from a hexaphase system based on the voltage transfer ratio (VTR) defined between the converter output and input. This work concerns only the case of high VTR reaching 96.6%. The aim of this article is to extend this work by comparing PI and LQR controllers under severe dynamic conditions. Closed-loop simulations of the system feeding a 1.35 MW inductive load are performed, and an overall assessment of system performance for both controllers is presented.
