A Comparative Study on Lost and Found Management Systems in Academic Institutions: Assessing Reliability Across Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman, California State Polytechnic University, and Nazareth School of National University

It is inevitable for individuals to misplace and lose items occasionally, and losing these items could have various effects on one's being. As a result, National University Students developed a lost and found management system for Nazareth School of National University to refine the efficiency of locating and retrieving lost items within the school premises. A comparative analysis will be conducted by this paper to investigate Nazareth School's Lost and Found Management System and other two (2) alike lost and found systems: Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) Lost and Found Management System in Malaysia, and California State Polytechnic University (Cal Poly Pomona) Lost and Found System in the United States. To compare the said systems and draw out meaningful information, a competitive analysis comparison chart will be utilized. The analysis found out that UTAR Lost and Found System has distinct features: Announcement Page, Report Lost Item Form, Items for Sale Listing, Bid Items for Sale, Claim Item Form, Claim Record, Profile Details, Admin Profile Page, Staff Accounts, and Item Category, which introduced useful and practical features that were not existing on the other systems. Cal Poly Pomona's and Nazareth School's system, on the other hand, shared foundational features along UTAR's system demonstrating the following: Home Page Navigation, Admin Login, Found Items Listing, Lost Items Listing, Filter Function, and Item Information Viewer; the similar features are commonly found on a lost and found system. Essentially, Home Page Navigation, Admin Login, Found Items Listing, Filter Function, Item Information Viewer, Add Item Functionality and Edit Item Functionality could serve as the foundational features for a potential for standardization of features for a lost and found system.
