Towards User-Centric Machine Learning: Educational Web-Based GUI Tool Development

In this paper, we developed an open-source, web-based graphical user interface (GUI) for facilitating multidisciplinary learning of machine learning (ML) fundamentals. This web interface is a gateway to mastering ML in an accessible and engaging manner. Students receive a holistic view of the fundamental phases of an ML project pipeline: data collection, processing, splitting in conjunction with model training, fitting, and evaluation across several major ML models, including linear, logistic, and polynomial regression, support vector machine, and neural network. Our tool guides learners through the entire data analysis pipeline, leveraging a do-it-yourself (DIY) approach that encourages hands-on learning targeted toward beginners, self-learners, and non-computing majors. Our software design fosters the user's understanding-with intuitive feedback-to assist in lowering the barrier of entry.
