Fault Location, Isolation and Service Restoration Through Advanced Distribution Management System

Fault Location, Isolation and Service Restoration (FLISR) is an important aspect in distribution grid modernization. FLISR is one of the modules in Advanced Distribution Management System (ADMS). It is an automated process through Switch Order Management (SOM) whereby the faults are located, isolated and the healthy portion of the distribution circuits are automatically restored without human intervention. It involves the coordination with field devices such as the Fault Passage Indicator (FPI), Smart Load Break Switch (SLBS), Sectionalizer and Autorecloser. Robust communication is the prerequisites for such advanced applications. With such systems, the outages are minimized with faster restoration thereby improving system reliability.
