Design and Implementation of Thermal Error Compensation Method for CNC Machine Tool Electric Spindle

The thermal error of CNC machine tools has consistently been a prominent and significant subject of interest within the realm of mechanical manufacturing. The decrease in machining accuracy caused by thermal errors affects the entire machine tool manufacturing industry. In particular, for CNC machine tools equipped with high-speed electric spindles, the thermal deformation of the electric spindle has a direct impact on the machining quality of the machine tool. This paper proposes a thermal error prediction model and designs a thermal error compensation method specifically for electric spindles. The designed method is then validated through workpiece machining experiments on a CNC machine tool equipped with a high-speed electric spindle. The experimental findings substantiate that implementing the approach presented in this paper for thermal error compensation of the electric spindle leads to a substantial enhancement in the accuracy of the machined workpieces. The effectiveness of the methodology outlined in this paper for addressing the thermal error problem in machine tool electric spindles is confirmed.
