An Economic Loss Reduction Using Static VAR Compensator and Capacitor Placement in Reconfigurable and Expandable Distribution Grids With a Variable Electric Power Demand

Using a combination of hybrid system reconfiguration and expansion together with placement of static VAR compensators (SVCs) and shunt capacitors that are dependent on time varying electricity consumption to economically minimize network losses, is an optimization challenge that requires substantial numerical tries in real distribution networks. In a bid to reduce complexities, many of previously published studies rarely considered the variability of load despite the fact that ignorance of load variation has the capacity to reduce the precision of solutions. Due to this reason, this paper proposes an efficient economic module to create variable loads in a large-scale hybrid problem of network reconfiguration and expansion, as well as placement of reactive power controllers. The implementation of the model proposed in this paper was conducted on two real distribution systems with actual load variations. The proposed model exhibited faster computational processing, precision, easy application of the model, and cost effectiveness compared to the conventional based-peak load approaches as well as variable load-based frameworks in the presence of fixed capacitors and variable VAR compensators.
