Study on Lighting Overvoltage and Protective Measures of Gas Pipeline Nearby Electric Power Tower in Urban Area

The paper proposes an optimization scheme to mitigate overvoltage risks in gas pipelines caused by lightning or grounding faults in transmission lines. By replacing horizontal grounding electrodes with vertical ones in electric tower grounding grids, the scheme aims to reduce dispersion currents into grounded pipelines. Theoretical analysis and simulations were conducted to validate the scheme, focusing on factors like soil resistivity, lightning current amplitude, and distance between the grounding grid and pipelines. Results show that vertical grounding electrodes can effectively decrease grounding resistance and protect gas pipelines. This safety engineering approach can guide the design and construction of grounding grids and overvoltage protection for urban electric power towers and gas pipelines.
