Nova PM Sensor SDS011 for Alternative Air Quality Monitoring Based on the Internet of Things

Poor air quality is becoming a global issue that impacts human health and the environment. Accurate, real-time air quality measurements are essential for monitoring and addressing these challenges. Currently, the air quality monitoring process is still conducted manually, with tools that tend to be expensive and results that are difficult for the public to access. Additionally, a lack of understanding in analyzing air quality data poses a significant challenge for real-time monitoring. This research aims to design an alternative air quality monitoring device that can provide real-time information using the SDSOll sensor and ESP32 module. The SDS011 sensor measures PM2.5 and PM10 particulate matter in the air, while the ESP32 module acts as a data processor that wirelessly transmits measurement results to a server via a Wi-Fi network. The SDS011 sensors are calibrated using air quality standards. The development of this device includes both hardware and software design, as well as integration between the sensor and communication module. The research aims to develop cost-effective, accurate, and efficient air quality monitoring tools to detect PM2.5 and PM10 levels. It was found that air quality data could be transmitted in real time and made accessible to the public via the ThingSpeak website.
