A Nonlinear Integral Sliding Mode Current Control Strategy For Direct Drive Wave Energy Conversion

This paper proposes a current control strategy for a direct drive wave energy converter. With the implementation of irregular waves in direct drive wave energy, non-linear controllers could serve better in performance and the suppression of disturbances. Hence, an integral sliding mode control strategy is implemented to stabilize the overall direct drive wave energy system. An impedance matching strategy is adopted to generate the required reference q-axis current which maximizes energy capture and minimizes current losses. In order to prove the effectiveness of the integral sliding mode controller, this article takes a further step, conducting a numerical performance index study with a PID controller.
