A Non-Linear Detector Based on Linear Techniques for MUD in Acoustic Communication

High-rate communication in acoustic environment is achieved using multiple input multiple output (MIMO) combines with orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) scheme. But, the capacity of such system degrades due to multiple access interference (MAI). Therefore, symbol detection for such system is achieved using multiuser detection (MUD) in acoustic communication. In this research, MUD is accomplished in underwater acoustic (UWA) environment using weighted parallel interference cancellation (WPIC) technique based on zero-forcing (ZF) and minimum-mean-square-error (MMSE) detector. The channel modelling incorporated in the system is based on singular value decomposition (SVD). The outputs resulted from MATLAB simulation reveal that proposed method achieve good system performance and also MMSE detector outperform over ZF detector in bit error rate (BER) performance.
