Iot-Based Smart Dustbin for Waste Level Monitoring and Segregation

The concept of waste segregation management is being implemented in our daily lives, for dry and wet waste separation. It was being implemented to avoid mixed waste collection. Mixed waste collection leads to poor waste management causing reduced recycling efficiency. At the same time sorting mixed waste requires additional processing, increasing the cost of waste collection. Periodically checking the rubbish bins' level is also necessary to prevent overflow, which can lead to unsanitary conditions in the community and surrounding area. To address all the issues, an Arduino-based Internet of Things system that uses a soil moisture sensor and an ultrasonic sensor with the assistance of a NodeMCU is suggested. Using a servo motor, the soil moisture sensor assists in separating the dry and wet trash into the dustbin. The NodeMCU and ultrasonic sensor with Arduino-based hardware components are used for measuring the level of the dustbin. A notification app has been developed using Blynk to send e-notifications to the authorities when the garbage bin is full. This will facilitate the timely collection of the garbage avoiding unhygienic conditions.
