Review on Security Requirements for IT-OT Integration in Utility Internet-of-Things (IoT)

There are many differences in the environment and requirements between information technology (IT) and operational technology (OT). The introduction of the Internet of Thing (IoT) integrates both IT and OT into a single system by converging it. IoT can converge IT networks focusing primarily on privacy, authentication, integrity, and non-repudiation while OT networks focus on accessibility, integrity and privacy. Both IT and OT network requirements of availability and confidentiality are conflicting cause major challenge to be overcome in a balanced way to bring out the benefit of IT -OT convergence. Security is the major challenge when integrating both IT and OT systems. This paper shows the challenges and security requirements needed for IoT systems in power utility.
