A Novel Internet of Things Device for Blind People Using ESP32

This paper describes the creation of the second prototype of a device that helps blind people access new technologies. The whole project is named “Optical Cane,” which is an embedded system integrating an application designed on Flutter and programmed on Visual Studio Code and Thonny. Additionally, it includes an adaptable device created with 3D modeling, an ESP32 (taking advantage of its easy access to the IoT of the shield), and multiple sensors programmed with Micro-Python. These sensors detect objects and analyze them to provide the highest possible accuracy in measuring obstacles, either through the app or by giving a tactile or sound signal. Incorporating different sensors such as ultrasonic, camera, and gyroscopic sensors helps create a rich environment, providing a friendly experience for users with visual disabilities. This prototype demonstrates that accessibility and technology can become even more affordable for people who want to enhance their perception of the world.
