Electricity market reform constitutes a critical element in the establishment of a modern power system infrastructure. As the new power system evolves, the development of electricity markets and pricing mechanisms becomes increasingly intricate and diverse. This paper offers a synthesis of the construction of exemplary electricity markets both domestically and globally, examining the interplay between trading instruments and pricing mechanisms within these contexts. Ultimately, it proposes a strategy for the coordination of multi-market, multi-variety pricing mechanisms within the new power system framework. The aim is to explore the developmental trends and challenges associated with trading instruments and pricing mechanisms in the new power system, thereby fostering the sustainable growth of renewable energy and ensuring the efficient functioning of electricity markets.
