Eddy Current Loss Minimization Method of Linear Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor

This paper presents an optimized design of the LPMSM, which is achieved through adjustments to the line segment, size, and groove shape. The design incorporates measures to reduce eddy current loss, enhance efficiency and stability, and improve thermal reliability. Additionally, it facilitates high-efficiency and low-consumption applications. The paper contributes new theories and technologies and promotes energy conservation, emission reduction, and a longer air gap. The eddy current effect in linear PM synchronous motors is a key factor affecting motor efficiency and temperature. It even causes the PMs to overheat and demagnetize, leading to generating braking force to weaken the electromagnetic thrust. Through FEA, the eddy loss and braking force of different PM segments, polar arc coefficients, PM heights, slot widths, stator slot types, and air gap lengths are obtained. The results show that employing segmented PMs, half-closed slots, and an extended air gap can effectively dissipate magnetic field heat and improve overall motor performance.
