Two Approaches for Assessing the Operating Characteristic of X-Bar Chart Using Triplet Estimates

Our focus is to develop a 9-point method to determine the OC of x-bar chart using triplet estimates of mean and standard deviation generated by considering the 100(1-α) % confidence interval of the respective parameters. In this paper we have proposed two different methods viz., “evaluate and summarize” (ESM) and “summarize and evaluate” (SEM) for finding the value of the OC in terms of the pivotal element ‘k’, indicating the shift in the process mean. It is shown by simulation that evaluating the nine OC values and combining them is better than combining the nine OC values and evaluating the OC in terms of standard error.
