A Low-Frequency Shear Vibration Mode Piezoelectric Acoustically Excited Antenna Based on Z-cut Quartz Crystal

To solve the size limitation of traditional electromagnetically excited low-frequency antennas, a Z-cut quartz piezoelectric acoustically excited antenna (PAEA) is proposed in this paper. The impedance and vibration pattern at the characteristic frequency of the Z-cut quartz PAEA is simulated in COMSOL. The simulation results show that the antenna vibrates in a shear mode at 56 and 60.3 kHz. Then, we fabricated a prototype to test the antenna impedance, and the resonant frequency matched the simulation results. Additionally, we built a test platform to measure the radiation performance of the PAEA. We found that the received voltage peaks at the resonant frequency, three times higher than without the PAEA.
