A 2D-MIMO Array for Automotive Radar Based on Genetic Algorithm

The multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) radar has proven highly attractive for various applications, especially for automotive radar systems. The array structure design, as one of the key problems, has great improvement on the application of automotive MIMO radar. In this paper, the sparse virtual array concept and genetic algorithm are combined to construct a high angular resolution two-dimensional MIMO (2D-MIMO) array. To satisfy practical applications, several practical constraints including the aperture of the array, the grid size of array, the edge of the array element, and the distance from the chip to the antenna are added. The corresponding simulation results of proposed array are shown to demonstrate its performance.
