Energy-Selective Surface for In-Band and Out-of-Band Electromagnetic Wave Stealth

This paper presents a novel energy-selective surface, consisting of an absorptive layer loaded with PIN diodes and an energy-selective layer sandwiched by an air spacer. It can transmit low-power signals in the operating band and absorb inband and out-of-band high-power signals. When a low-power signal is incident, it exhibits a passband at 500 MHz with 0.29 dB insertion loss at 5.2 GHz, and absorbs out-of-band signals with more than 80% absorptivity ranging from 1.59 to 4.65 GHz and from 5.78 to 7.26 GHz. Under high-power microwave, the shielding effectiveness is more than 10 dB, and an absorption band range of $1.63-7.25 \mathrm{GHz}$ is obtained. The proposed ESS provide significant advantages in HPM protection and stealth.
