Miniaturized helical antenna based on amorphous & nanocrystalline soft magnetic materials

This paper presents a miniaturized helical antenna with a high permeability core. The proposed antenna functions at 3.35 GHz, with return loss of less than -10 dB and gain of 9.39 dBi. The substrate used within helical antenna is amorphous & nanocrystalline soft magnetic materials, which has a permeability of 1000 and can be used to reduce the size of conventional helical antennas. The proposed helical antenna was implemented and simulated using software tool. We optimized the S-parameter based on the results. Then, the antenna prototype was fabricated to confirm the results. The results show that the measured results are consistent with the simulated results and the size is reduced by about 50% compared to conventional helical antennas. The proposed antenna has a broad application prospect in the field of portable devices.
