Transfer Function Characterization for Automotive EMC

This paper presents the concept of transfer function for quantifying the coupling between two electronic systems on an automobile and the radiated emission from full vehicle. The approach utilizes a current probe as the noise injection source, and depending upon the transfer function to be characterized, another current probe or an antenna at the victim circuit. The influence of the noise injection probe is eliminated by a two-step procedure considered in this paper. The proposed technique using current probes is non-invasive and convenient. The transfer functions obtained by this technique are compared with those obtained by the direct invasive measurements using network analyzer.
