Optimizing Ultrasonic Wireless Power Transfer Systems: Theoretical and Experimental Analysis of Piezoelectric Transducer Resonance

This article focused on investigating the resonance frequency of piezoelectric transducers (PZTs) and the impact of different compensation methods on the performance of ultrasonic wireless power transfer (UWPT) systems. The resonance frequencies of individual PZT series and parallel configurations are initially investigated, revealing that inductive alterations govern resonant frequencies. Another feature discovered is that the total power and efficiency of the UWPT system are greatly augmented by introducing a series inductance in the PZT transmitter and a parallel inductance in the receiver side. The experimental prototype for the UWPT system is developed to ensure validity—a detailed study of their output properties, especially on designs that involve incorporated inductance. The experimental findings support the feasibility of the series-parallel (SP) compensation circuit, as they match our theoretical predictions. Moreover, the UWPT system in this study is capable of transmitting not only power but also signals for sensing applications. The present study furnishes innovative theoretical and experimental evidence for optimizing UWPT system performance, offering considerable capabilities for notable advances in wireless power transfer (WPT).
