Adaptive Vibration Control and Band Gap Tuning of Piezoelectric Metamaterials Beams

In this paper, a novel piezoelectric metamateial beam is proposed for vibration suppression, and the adaptive band gap control of metamaterials is investigated. By manipulating geometric dimensions, material properties, and arrangement, elastic wave propagation within specific frequency ranges can be effectively suppressed. The study explores both passive and active control strategies, notably utilizing piezoelectric materials coupled with feedback and LC transmission control circuits to dynamically adjust band gaps. A dynamic model is derived using the Euler-Bernoulli beam theory, and the vibration response and wave propagation are studied by using the spectral element method (SEM). Numerical results demonstrate that the width and location of both Bragg-type and locally resonant band gaps can be tuned by optimizing parameters like feedback control gain. This work provides a comprehensive framework for designing adaptable metamaterials that achieve targeted noise control and vibration attenuation.
